Rivers United and Enyimba set to do battle for CAF Confederation Cup group ticket
Osho and Eguma set to deliver biggest match in Nigerian football
Two of the biggest clubs in Nigerian football, Rivers United and Enyimba are set to do battle in the second leg of the qualifying round for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. Enyimba have won the NPFL a record 8 times, and also have won the CAF Champions League twice, making them the biggest Nigerian club by virtue of trophies won while Rivers United became a mega club after the 2016 merger of city rivals, Sharks FC and Dolphins FC formed the club.
The first leg at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba ended with a 1-0 win for the home side, and today’s second leg will be held at the home ground of Rivers United, the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, a stadium which has housed Enyimba on numerous occasions in continental football, more times than even Rivers United have used it owing to the geographical position of the two cities that host both clubs.
Enyimba will be without star striker, Tosin Omoyele for the game after the striker received a red card last time out, although they will be pleased to know that Anthony Omaka’s knock from the closing stages of the first leg wasn’t serious as the defensive midfielder is fit for today’s game. Rivers United have a full squad to call upon today. Enyimba coach, Fatai Osho has stated his side’s readiness to do what is needed of them to qualify for the group phase of the competition against a top quality side in Rivers United who are coached by the vastly experienced Stanley Eguma. It’s a game of the new school vs Old school between Osho and Eguma.
The game will be aired live from Port Harcourt on NTA and the NPFL.tv app from 4pm today.
