Rivers United Captain Emekayi Urges Team to Bounce Back Against Remo Stars

Rivers United captain, Temple Emekayi, has called on his teammates to respond quickly to their recent poor results by getting a win in their next Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Remo Stars on Sunday.

The Port Harcourt club lost 1-0 to Bayelsa United on NPFL match-day 31 and then suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Beyond Limits FA in the President Federation Cup on Wednesday.

Speaking after the cup exit, Emekayi admitted the disappointment but said the team still has a lot to fight for in the league.

“I know it might take a bit of time to pick ourselves up again, but we have enough motivation with what we are playing for in the league,” he told PUNCH Sports Extra.

Rivers United are currently eight points behind league leaders Remo Stars. Emekayi stressed how important every game is now as they aim to win a trophy this season.

“Every game is crucial now. The league has been very tight and competitive,” he said.

“Our aim is to win something this season. But we can’t think too far ahead. We must take it one day at a time, one game at a time.

“Remo Stars are next, and we must be ready. After that, we’ll focus on the next match.”

Rivers United will host Remo Stars on Sunday, 6 April, in Port Harcourt. A win would reduce the gap between them and the league leaders to five points, with just six games left to play.
