Rivers United parts ways with Coach Stanley Eguma
Nigeria Premier Football League club, Rivers United FC has taken decisive action by sacking their head coach, Stanley Eguma, in the aftermath of their recent loss to Remo Stars.
The club’s management made the announcement immediately following Rivers United’s disappointing 2-1 defeat last Sunday.
Eguma, a seasoned tactician known as ‘Capelo’, was entrusted with the task of securing a victory against Remo Stars. However, the team’s failure to deliver the desired result led to his dismissal. Rivers United currently finds itself in the 13th position in the league standings but with several outstanding games.
Following Eguma’s departure, his assistant Evan Ogenyi assumed temporary charge of the team during their subsequent fixture against Kwara United, which ended in a goalless draw.
Despite this setback, Eguma leaves behind a legacy of success at Rivers United. Notably, he guided the club to victory in the 2021 NPFL title race and secured a commendable second-place finish in the 2016 season. His tenure saw the amalgamation of Sharks FC and Dolphins FC under the banner of Rivers United FC.
Meanwhile, SportsRation exclusively gathered that the sack of Stanley Eguma is beyond on-field performances but has link to the political battle between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and ex-governor Nyesom Wike.
Eguma is a known ally of the former Governor and so has been axed as part of ongoing revolution in the state.
