Rivers United reach CAF Confederation Cup quater-final AGAIN

Rivers United FC of Nigeria qualified for the quater-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup for a second season in a row after a dramatic win against Dreams FC of Ghana in the last group stage match.

Coach Stanley Eguma tutored Rivers United started the encounter facing the possibility of elimination from the competition, but managed to secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Dreams FC in their final group stage match.

In a must-win game to advance to the quarter-finals, Rivers United found themselves up against a formidable Dreams FC team that had previously defeated them in the first leg.

Despite a challenging start, with Abdul Aziz Issah scoring for Dreams FC in the 40th minute, Rivers United rallied in the second half. Deputy Echeta netted the equalizer for Rivers United in the 61st minute, setting the stage for a thrilling finale. Despite attempts by Dreams FC to waste time, Rivers United persisted in their pursuit of victory at their adopted home-ground, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Their efforts paid off in the 10th minute of stoppage time when Kazie Godswill capitalized on a goalmouth scramble to score from inside the box, securing the decisive 2-1 lead.

This crucial victory ensured that Rivers United finished second in their group, trailing behind Dreams FC with a better goal difference. They now await the draw to determine their opponents in the next round of the competition.
