ABOUT THE MATCH
This will not be the first time both teams will be meeting in CAF Club competition.
In 2017, both teams clashed over two-legs with Club Africain defeating Rivers United FC on both occasions.
On 2nd July, 2017, Rivers United FC fell 0-2 in Nigeria before Club Africain completed the double with a 3-1 win in Tunisia.
A lot has changed at both clubs since that time and so, the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup group stage clash will offer Nigeria’s Rivers United FC opportunity to write a new history.
Rivers United FC got their group stage journey off to a resounding start with a 3-0 spanking of Academica do Lobito of Angola but following their defeat in Ghana vs Dream FC, the pride of Rivers are condemned to win to boost their chances of qualifying for the quater-final.
In his pre-match interview, Coach Stanley Eguma of Rivers acknowledged how important the result of this game will be to their group stage run,
“We are prepared because they are a good team, having won their first two games but we are hitching to make sure we win our 3rd game, ” Eguma said.
” Having lost the second game, we have to work hard to win the 3rd game and I believe we are going to get a good result.”
Club Africain sit top of Group C table with six points following wins in their first two matches.
Dream FC are second with three points same as Rivers United in third place.
Only the top two teams from the group will qualify for the quarter-final of the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup.
SPORTSRATION SAYS
Club Africain will be a tough nut to crack for Rivers United FC.
The Tunisian giants have won their last five matches, whie the Nigerian side have managed two wins, two defeats and one draw in the same number of games.
Predicting the winner will be tricky but we expect goals at both ends.
