Rodgers Backs Iheanacho to Shine at Celtic After Late Move

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says new signing Kelechi Iheanacho will be an important player for the club after joining just before the Europa League deadline.

The 28-year-old Nigerian striker has signed a one-year contract as a free agent, just one day after ending his deal with Spanish side Sevilla.

His arrival follows heavy criticism from Celtic fans, who were upset that the club didn’t sign a striker before the transfer window closed. Many were angry when Adam Idah was sold to Swansea City on deadline day without a replacement lined up.

Rodgers, who previously coached Iheanacho at Leicester City, is confident in the striker’s ability.

“He’s a very talented player with great skill, strength, and energy,” Rodgers told Celtic’s website.
“He’s experienced and at the peak of his career, so I believe he’ll make a big difference to our team.”

Rodgers added that he’s sure Iheanacho will enjoy life at Celtic, and that fans will appreciate what he brings to the squad.

A Career Full of Experience

Iheanacho began his professional career at Manchester City, where he won the League Cup. He later moved to Leicester, winning the FA Cup in 2021.

He has also been a key player for Nigeria, earning 59 caps and helping his country finish second at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

After moving to Sevilla last summer, he spent part of last season on loan at Middlesbrough in the English Championship.

Despite a rocky end to the transfer window, Rodgers believes Celtic fans will soon be celebrating the arrival of a proven goal-scorer.
