Rodri Picks Messi as the Greatest of All Time
Manchester City star Rodri has shared his opinion on the long-standing debate about who is the greatest footballer of all time (GOAT) between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rodri, who had an outstanding season with Manchester City and Spain, was recently crowned the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, beating Vinicius Jr. to the award. The 28-year-old played a key role in helping Manchester City win their fourth consecutive Premier League title and was instrumental in Spain’s victory at the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
When asked about the Messi vs Ronaldo debate, Rodri made his choice clear. Speaking to El Hormiguero, he said:
“Best player of all time? I have no doubt, Lionel Messi. Cristiano has managed to match Messi without innate talent. But those of us who play against them see the difference.”
Rodri explained that while Ronaldo was incredibly dangerous in the penalty area, Messi’s brilliance was felt across the entire pitch.
“With Messi, danger could come from anywhere. When he received the ball, you knew something was going to happen. When I tried to take the ball from him, it felt like I wasn’t even there,” Rodri added.
The midfielder firmly declared:
“Zero doubts. For me, Leo Messi is the best player ever.”
Unfortunately, Rodri’s season has been cut short after he ruptured his ACL during a match against Arsenal. He has since undergone surgery and will focus on his recovery.
