Roger Federer Hints at Court Comeback: ‘I Miss It’
Tennis legend Roger Federer has dropped a major hint about returning to the court, two years after his emotional retirement at the 2022 Laver Cup. The 20-time Grand Slam champion, widely regarded as one of the most graceful players to ever step on a tennis court, has revealed he is eager to start training again and possibly play exhibition matches in front of fans around the world.
In a recent interview, the Swiss icon admitted that he misses tennis deeply and hasn’t played much since stepping away from the sport.
“I’d like to resume training a little,” Federer said. “I hope to redo exhibitions again, fill stadiums around the world. Nothing planned yet, but I miss it. I almost haven’t played since my retirement.”
Federer, whose elegant playing style and sportsmanship won hearts across generations, has remained largely on the sidelines due to a lingering knee injury that forced his gradual exit from the professional game. But the 42-year-old appears hopeful that fans will soon see him wield his Wilson racquet once more.
“I’ve played a little with my children,” he added, “but I’d like to take it more seriously again. During my travels, I will get back into it. And maybe you’ll see me again on the court soon.”
Federer’s return—even in an exhibition format—would be a dream come true for tennis lovers. The former World No. 1, who won 103 career singles titles and held the top ranking for 310 weeks, including an unmatched streak of 237 consecutive weeks, last played professionally alongside Rafael Nadal in a tearful farewell doubles match in London.
Federer’s impact on tennis is legendary. As Serena Williams once said in 2019, “He’s the greatest of all time, to be honest. Both on the court and off the court, he has such charisma.”
While no official schedule has been released, Federer’s words are enough to ignite excitement across the tennis world.
The maestro may soon dance on the court again — not for titles, but for the love of the game.
