Roger Federer to Enter International Tennis Hall of Fame

Roger Federer will become the first member of tennis’s famous ‘Big Three’ to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Federer, now 44, retired in 2022 after winning 103 ATP titles – the second-highest total in the Open era, behind Jimmy Connors’ 109.

The Swiss legend was also the first man to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles, a record later passed by Novak Djokovic with 24 and Rafael Nadal with 22.

Federer received the news at Swiss Tennis, where he trained as a young player. He was congratulated during a video call by some of the 270 current Hall of Fame members.

“It’s a great honour to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and to stand with so many of the sport’s great champions,” Federer said.

“I have always respected the history of tennis and the examples set by those before me. To be recognised in this way by the sport and my peers is truly humbling. I look forward to visiting Newport next August to celebrate this special moment with the tennis community.”

Federer will be officially inducted from 27–29 August next year during ceremonies in Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

Of his 20 Grand Slam titles, Federer won a record eight men’s singles trophies at Wimbledon. He was world number one for 310 weeks, including a record 237 weeks in a row.
