Rohr Named As Benin Republic New Coach
Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has signed a three-year deal with the Benin Football Association to become their new coach.
The German tactician has been out of work since he was sacked as the Super Eagles coach in December 2021.
Rohr takes over from Moussa Latoundji, who has been a caretaker in charge of the team after Michel Dussuyer was sacked for failure to qualify for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
“I signed a three-year contract with the Beninese Football Association,” Rohr told Punch Sports Extra.
“It’s an interesting mission to rebuild a team (the Squirrels) with younger players.”
He is expected to take charge of his first game against Rwanda in the 2023 Nations Cup qualifier.
“I will be in Cotonou soon to prepare the next match against Rwanda.
“It’s a real challenge that I have accepted. We have to try and get something to revive the team.”
Rohr was Nigeria’s longest-serving coach having led the team for five years.
He led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
