Ronaldo reveals what his son told him after receiving his fifth Ballon d’Or title
Cristiano Ronaldo’s son told him he is going to be “better than him” at football after the star’s fifth Ballon d’Or win.
The Real Madrid forward saw off tough competition from long-term rival Lionel Messi and Neymar to win the accolade on Thursday night.
Ronaldo was gifted the golden ball in front of current footballers, ex-professionals and thousands of fans watching on TV screens around the world.
Upon receiving the accolade he said: “I hope to play at this level for a few more years, I hope the battle with Messi continues, things happen for a reason.
“I feel good this season and we’ll see what we win at the end of the year.
“Neymar has a lot of talent, a lot of potential, and I’m sure he’ll have some chance to win in the future.”
The Portuguese later joined up with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and his young son Cristiano Jr, who was apparently feeling inspired by his dad’s achievements.
Speaking proudly about his seven-year-old, Ronaldo said: “I see a bit of myself in Cristiano Jr and not only because he is my son.
“He told me that he will be better than me. He tells me that he will win a Ballon d’or and that he will win five.”
Ronaldo has previously posted videos of his son playing football to Instagram, scoring free-kicks and from open play.
