Rooney Urges Salah to Do More After Liverpool’s 3-0 Defeat to Manchester City

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah to start contributing more to his team’s overall play following their 3-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Salah struggled throughout the match and failed to record a goal or an assist as Liverpool were comfortably beaten by Pep Guardiola’s side.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Rooney criticised the Egyptian star for not helping his teammates defensively, especially leaving young right-back Conor Bradley exposed on the flank.
“Salah is in the team to score goals and create goals,” Rooney said. “But in big games, you have to double up. I think Salah has to come back and help his teammate.”
The former England captain also disagreed with the decision to rule out Virgil van Dijk’s goal for offside, which could have brought Liverpool level when they were trailing 1-0.
“It’s a really good header and the goal should’ve stood for me,” Rooney added.
Liverpool will now look to bounce back when they return to action next weekend, as questions continue to be raised about their performance in big away matches this season.
