Roony haunts Manchester United, Red Devils at brink of UCL exit

17-year-old gem sends Red Devils to the abyss of Group A

Teenage sensation Roony Bardghji was the hero for FC Copenhagen as they came from behind to pick up a sensational 4-3 win over Manchester United in Group A of the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United picked up their first win of the competition last time out when they hosted FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford, and visited Denmark hoping to complete the double.

The Red Devils lost their opening two games in the group, and were in danger of falling further behind in the race for the knockout stage.

Manchester United opened the scoring in the third minute, with summer signing Rasmus Hojlund tapping home from close range for his fourth goal of the season.

The Red Devils doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when Hojlund tapped home from close range after Copenhagen goalkeeper Kamil Grabara spilled a shot from Alejandro Garnacho into his path.

Manchester United were reduced to ten men when a VAR check confirmed a red card to star forward Marcus Rashford after a dangerous foul.

Copenhagen pulled one back in the 45th minute when former Southampton forward Mohammed Elyounoussi finished a low cross into the box.

The Danish champions drew level in added time after Manchester United conceded a penalty. Diogo Goncalves stepped up and sent Andre Onana the wrong way to level affairs, sending the home crowd into raptures.

Manchester United retook the lead after 69 minutes when captain Bruno Fernandes stepped up to score a penalty, which had been awarded for a handball.

Copenhagen left it late but found an equaliser once more through Lukas Lerager’s smart back-post finish in the 83rd minute, setting up a tense finale.

With three minutes left to play, 17-year-old substitute forward Roony Bardghji stunned the travelling fans with a fine half-volley, sealing a famous win for his side.

Manchester United are bottom of Group A after four rounds of matches and face Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in their final two games of the group.
