Ruben Amorim acknowledges first half substitution was difficult moment for Joshua Zirkzee

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says he understands Joshua Zirkzee’s reaction to being substituted in the first half vs Newcastle United on Monday night.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorimhas now admitte he will take the blame for substituting Joshua Zirkzee early in their 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United.

Manchester United found themselves two goals down inside 20 minutes, courtesy of strikes from Alexander Isak and Joelinton and so Amorim took a decision in search of redemption.

The United boss decided to replace Zirkzee with Kobbie Mainoo after just 33 minutes at Old Trafford with the former Bologna man also get jeers from the home crowd.

Amorim acknowledged the difficult moment for Zirkzee, saying:

“It was a very difficult moment [for Zirkzee] and he is a human being.”

He also took full responsibility for effecting the substitution, when he said:

“I’m responsible. When you have these kinds of moments, especially in the big clubs, you work really hard to turn things around.

“Also, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to train the basics to cope with the difficult moments.”

Manchester United will begin 2025 with another difficult game against League leaders Liverpool.
