Rublev claims childhood idol, Nadal’s scalp in Monte Carlo

Andrey Rublev picked up a famous win over World number 2, Rafael Nadal at the ATP Tour in Monte Carlo at the quarterfinal stage to proceed to the semifinals of the tournament.

Rublev won 6-2 4-6 6-2 as he stopped 11-time champion Nadal from winning his 12th title at Monte Carlo. The 23 year old idolizes the Spaniard, and has modelled his game after him. After the win, an overjoyed Rublev revealed that he has followed Nadal keenly all through the years, buying his merchandise and watching him play. Rublev has become only the fifth man to defeat Nadal at Monte Carlo, and will face Casper Ruud in the semi-final.
