Arsenal recorded a statement victory in their North London derby match when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium in their English Premier League matchday six clash to make it four wins on the bounce.
After beginning the season with back-to-back losses against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City, Arsenal looked to pick up momentum after the international break with consecutive 1-0 wins over Burnley and Norwich City before their derby match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal showed their intent from the first whistle at home to rivals Tottenham and opened the scoring inside 12 minutes through midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe. The Englishman timed his run perfectly and arrived at the penalty spot to convert a cutback from fellow academy graduate Bukayo Saka.
The home side doubled their advantage fifteen minutes later through captain Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. The striker was the recipient of a similar cutback to the one that led to the first goal from Smith-Rowe and finished with aplomb to double his side’s advantage and score his second goal of the season for Arsenal.
Arsenal waited only seven minutes before making it three against a hapless Tottenham Hotspur side. This time, it was youngster Saka who added his name to the scoresheet. An initial effort from the winger was blocked, and the ball fell kindly for him to smash home from inside the box. The home side were running away with the match and Tottenham could not keep up with them.
The second half commenced with Arsenal dominating affairs against Tottenham as they did in the first half. The visitors struggled to create any clear cut openings, with only Harry Kane testing Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from outside the box.
Tottenham rounded off the scoring as forward Heung-Min Son converted a low cross from Sergio Reguilon in second half added time to pull one back for the visitors.
Arsenal have now won consecutive matches against Burnley, Norwich City, AFC Wimbledon and Tottenham Hotspur. They look to have put their early season woes behind them in contrast to their city rivals Tottenham, who have lost three league matches in a row, conceding nine goals and scoring just one.
