Ruud Uses ATP Parental rule to withdraw From Dallas Open
Casper Ruud has withdrawn from the Dallas Open without facing an ATP Tour fine after making use of the tour’s newly introduced parental exemption rule.
The Norwegian pulled out of the ATP event, which begins on 9 February, with four days’ notice, despite reaching the final in Dallas last season.
Under updated regulations for the new season, players who become parents are permitted to withdraw from tournaments at short notice without financial penalties.
Ruud confirmed his decision in a statement on social media, citing the recent birth of his daughter and his intention to remain at home in Norway for an additional week.
“With the birth of our daughter this past weekend, I will be spending an extra week at home here in Norway to enjoy this special time together,” Ruud said.
While Ruud avoids an immediate fine, the ATP confirmed that his end of season bonus will be adjusted accordingly.
Ruud has already competed at the United Cup, ASB Classic and Australian Open this year. He is next scheduled to return to action at the Delray Beach Open in Florida on 16 February.
