Ruud van Nistelrooy heartbroken after losing Manchester United role
Former Manchester United striker and interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly heartbroken after being let go by new boss Ruben Amorim.
Van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim manager after Erik ten Hag was sacked, guiding the team to an unbeaten run with three wins and a draw in four matches. His time in charge ended on a high note with a 3-0 victory over Leicester, earning praise from fans and players alike.
Despite his success, the Dutchman was not retained by Amorim, who decided to bring in his own coaching team. Van Nistelrooy had hoped to stay at the club, even offering to work as an assistant, but this was not accepted, leaving him reportedly “devastated.”
Van Nistelrooy’s close friend and former teammate Andre Ooijer shared insights into the disappointment. Speaking to The Mirror, Ooijer said, “Ruud wanted to stay. The fans loved him, and he managed the team so well under tough conditions. Staying unbeaten is not easy.”
Ooijer also warned that Amorim could face pressure if results don’t go his way, saying, “If things don’t go well, the crowd might start calling for Ruud again.”
Amorim’s first test as United manager will be against Ipswich on November 24. Meanwhile, Van Nistelrooy’s short but impactful time at Old Trafford has left many fans wondering what could have been.
