Rwanda Appoint Adel Amrouche as New Coach Ahead of World Cup Qualifier Against Nigeria
The Super Eagles’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda will see the Amavubi led by a new head coach, Adel Amrouche.
The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) announced the appointment of the 56-year-old Algerian coach on Sunday, confirming he will replace German coach Thorsten Spittler.
Amrouche, who has a wealth of experience, most recently managed Tanzania at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. He has previously coached several African national teams, including Burundi, Kenya, Libya, and Botswana.
Amrouche’s first test in charge of Rwanda will be a crucial World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles on Friday, March 21, at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Currently, Rwanda top Group C with seven points, four ahead of Nigeria. This makes the match an important fixture for the Super Eagles as they aim to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Amrouche will be assisted by former Rwanda captain Eric Nshimiyimana and Dr. Carolin Braun, who will serve as the second assistant coach.
In addition to his coaching experience, Amrouche holds a UEFA Trainer Licence and has coached club teams in Belgium and Africa.
After facing Nigeria, Rwanda will continue their World Cup qualification campaign with Amrouche in charge, and the Super Eagles will look to revive their hopes of qualifying with a win against the new coach in his first official match.
