Rwanda to Arrive Nigeria on Tuesday Ahead of World Cup Qualifier

Rwanda’s Amavubi will arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Super Eagles.

A one-man advance party is expected in Lagos on Monday, while the full delegation will touch down at 1:15pm on Tuesday aboard a RwandAir flight. From Lagos, the team will head to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, by 4pm the same day.

The Matchday 7 clash is crucial for both sides as they chase qualification from Group C. South Africa currently top the group with 13 points, though FIFA is yet to rule on their use of an ineligible player in a win over Lesotho earlier this year. Rwanda are second with eight points, the same as Benin Republic, while Nigeria are fourth with seven points. Lesotho have six points and Zimbabwe sit bottom with four.

Both Nigeria and Rwanda will see Saturday’s game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium as a must-win to boost their chances, especially if South Africa are penalised.

The encounter comes five months after the Super Eagles beat Rwanda 2-0 in Kigali in Matchday 5, and nine months after Rwanda stunned Nigeria 2-1 in Uyo during the final round of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Despite that victory, Amavubi failed to qualify as Benin Republic secured the group’s second ticket behind Nigeria.

After this weekend’s clash, Rwanda will face Zimbabwe in Matchday 8, while the Super Eagles travel to Bloemfontein for a tough meeting with group leaders South Africa.
