Sabalenka finally conquers Indian Wells Final

Aryna Sabalenka finally has her Indian Wells Open title.

After finishing runner-up twice in the past, the world No.1 defeated Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6) in the final that ended with Sabalenka saving match point in the deciding tiebreak.

It was a battle between two of the most powerful hitters on the WTA Tour. Rybakina struck first, taking the opening set, but Sabalenka responded by raising her level in the second and forcing a deciding set.

The third set delivered the drama the final deserved. With the match hanging in the balance, Sabalenka saved match point before edging the tiebreak to secure the title.

The win ended Rybakina’s 12-match winning streak against Top 10 players and gave Sabalenka another major milestone in her career.

The victory marked her:

  • 10th WTA 1000 title

  • 23rd career title

  • 20th hard-court title

  • 58th Top 10 win

Speaking after the match, Sabalenka praised her opponent.

“First of all, congrats Elena on another great tournament. I hope we keep facing each other in the later stages and bringing these battles to the court.”

She also thanked her team for staying with her through every moment on tour.

“Thank you for always being there, for always supporting me, for listening to all the things I’m saying during matches.”

And it was a week, she said she will never forget.

“Getting a puppy. Getting engaged. Winning a title. I’ll definitely remember it for the rest of my life.”
