Sabalenka praises Victoria Mboko at Australian Open
Aryna Sabalenka had nothing but praise for Victoria Mboko after defeating the teenager at the Australian Open.
Speaking after the match, Sabalenka praised Mboko’s level and composure despite her age, acknowledging how difficult the contest was.
“What an incredible player for such a young age,” Sabalenka said. “It’s incredible to see these kids coming up on tour. I can’t believe I say that — I feel like I’m a kid still, but whatever.”
The world No. 1 added that Mboko made her work throughout the match.
“Incredible player. She pushed me really hard today,” Sabalenka said. “Super happy with the win. Once again in straight sets. She played incredible tennis. She pushed me so much. Happy to be through.”
Despite the loss, Mboko competed well in the match, but Sabalenka moved on with another solid result as she remains in control of her campaign at the tournament.
