‘Sack Finidi George’ – Former Super Eagles star urges NFF
Former Nigeria international Sam Sodje has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to dismiss Super Eagles head coach Finidi George.
Finidi, who took permanent charge of the team in May 2024, is under fire following Nigeria’s poor performance in the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
The Super Eagles are currently in fifth place in Group C with just three points from four games, prompting fans to demand Finidi’s removal after just two games in-charge of the team.
Sam Sodje voiced his concerns on Brila FM, stating, “The NFF has to sort themselves out. If you sack him, what are you expecting to get? Well, yes. Coaches are being judged for results. He has not got his results right now.”
He emphasised the importance of World Cup qualification, saying, “We aim to qualify for the World Cup. If we keep going the way we’re going, we won’t qualify. So, it’s not about Finidi George, it’s about what we want. So yes, sacking him might not be the worst idea, because we need to be in the World Cup.”
Sodje’s comments reflect the growing frustration among supporters and highlight the urgent need for a turnaround in the Super Eagles’ fortunes.
