Sadiq Scores as Valencia Beats Ourense to Reach Copa del Rey Quarterfinals
Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq scored in his first start for Valencia as they defeated third-division side Ourense 2-0 in the Copa del Rey round of 16 on Tuesday.
Sadiq, 27, sealed the win in the 78th minute with an impressive solo effort. He beat two defenders before striking a powerful shot into the top corner. Valencia’s first goal came earlier in the second half when Ourense defender Francisco Carmona accidentally scored an own goal in the 50th minute.
This was Sadiq’s third appearance for Valencia since joining on loan from Real Sociedad, having come off the bench in his previous matches.
Valencia, currently struggling at the bottom of the Spanish league table, became the first team to secure a spot in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
Other matches in the competition include Barcelona hosting Real Betis and Atletico Madrid visiting Elche on Wednesday. Defending champions Athletic Bilbao will face Osasuna, while Real Madrid will play against Celta Vigo on Thursday.
The victory offers a glimmer of hope for Valencia as they aim to turn their season around with a strong run in the cup competition.
