Sadiq Umar Rescues Valencia with Equaliser Against Mallorca

Sadiq Umar was on target as Valencia CF secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against RCD Mallorca in Tuesday’s La Liga encounter.
Head coach Carlos Corberán handed Sadiq a place in the starting line-up for the crucial Week 32 clash, with both sides battling to stay clear of relegation trouble. The Nigerian striker, eager to end his goal drought stretching back to mid-February, found it difficult to influence the first half as Mallorca controlled possession and created the better chances, but failed to take the lead before the break.
The visitors eventually went ahead four minutes after the restart when Samu Costa powered home a header from Sergi Darder’s cross. Valencia responded with greater urgency, and their efforts paid off in the 67th minute. Javi Guerra flicked on a delivery into the box, and Sadiq reacted quickly to nod home the equaliser.
Sadiq almost completed the comeback late on with a long-range effort, but his strike was comfortably saved. Despite late pressure from Mallorca, neither side could find a winner as the contest ended level.
The goal was Sadiq’s second since joining Valencia in January, underlining his mixed form since arriving at the club. However, the strike could serve as a timely boost for the Super Eagles forward as he looks to rediscover consistency.
Valencia currently sit 13th on the table with 36 points from 32 matches, just four points above the relegation zone, with several teams below them still having games in hand.
