Samson Siasia among top-ten applicants for Super Eagles job

Samson Siasia is currently banned from all football related activities but he has been mentioned among top-ten coaches who have applied for the vacant Super Eagles job.

A reports by SOCCERNET says that at least ten candidates have submitted their applications expressing interest in the vacant Super Eagles head coach position to the Nigeria Football Federation before the deadline on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Following the departure of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro, who led the Nigerian national team to the runner-up spot at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the NFF issued a call for applications to fill the coaching role.

Despite Peseiro’s interest in continuing, no contractual agreement was reached with the NFF, paving the way for other contenders to vie for the position.

Among the notable applicants is former Barcelona winger Emmanuel Amunike, who boasts an illustrious playing and coaching career, including winning the 1994 AFCON and the 1996 Olympic Games, as well as leading Tanzania to qualify for the 2019 AFCON.

Other confirmed applicants include Michael Nsien, the current United States U19 team coach, former Super Eagles assistant coach Sylvanus Okpala, Ndubuisi Egbo, the first Nigerian coach to win a European league title, and Daniel Amokachi, a former Super Eagles assistant coach.

Also in the mix are Sunday Oliseh, former head coach of the Super Eagles, former Cameroon national team head coach Antonio Conceicao, and George Finidi, who guided Enyimba FC to a league title and served as Peseiro’s assistant at AFCON 2023.

Despite controversies surrounding them, Samson Siasia, currently banned by FIFA due to a match-fixing investigation, and Salisu Yusuf, previously implicated in bribery allegations, have also submitted their applications.

The NFF is set to announce the new Super Eagles head coach in April.
