Samu Omorodion closes the door on Nigerian hopes

Deportivo Alaves youngster Samu Omorodion has revealed that he does not consider Nigeria to be a possible team for him in the future, hedging his bets on playing for Spain.

Omorodion, who is on loan at Alaves from Atletico Madrid, has been one of the breakout stars of the season in La Liga. The 19-year-old striker joined Diego Simeone’s side after an impressive start to the season with his boyhood club Granada.

The Spain U-21 international has scored against Atletico Madrid and Barcelona this season, catching the eyes of multiple top sides. The teenager revealed to AS that his goal is to play for the Spanish national team in his career.

“Spain has given me the opportunity and I am very grateful for it. I don’t think about Nigeria. My goal is to have a career with Spain senior side.”

Atletico Madrid manager Simeone rates him very highly and has compared him to Diego Costa. The Spanish side will hope that he returns as a better player and takes over from Alvaro Morata at the club.
