Samuel Chukwueze Scores as Lazio Beat AC Milan 2-1 in Serie A
AC Milan’s troubles deepened on Sunday after a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Lazio at home, with a late penalty from Pedro in the eighth minute of stoppage time sealing the win for the visitors.
The match saw Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan make a crucial mistake, fouling Gustav Isaksen in the box just as Samuel Chukwueze had equalised for Milan in the 85th minute. Chukwueze’s goal had given Milan hope, but Lazio were awarded a penalty, and Pedro calmly converted to give Lazio all three points.
The result pushed Lazio up to fourth in the Serie A standings, securing a spot in the Champions League places, one point ahead of Juventus, who play Verona on Monday. Milan, on the other hand, remain in ninth place after a disappointing performance at home.
Earlier in the match, Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni had given his side the lead with his 10th goal of the season. However, Milan’s night worsened when Strahinja Pavlovic was sent off for a foul on Isaksen, leaving Milan to play with 10 men for more than 20 minutes.
The match also saw protests from AC Milan’s supporters, who expressed their frustration by delaying their entry into the stadium until the 15th minute. When they did arrive, the fans directed their anger at the team, calling them “shameful” and demanding that the club’s American owners, RedBird, sell the club.
Lazio’s win leaves Milan reeling, suffering their third defeat in just over a week. The fans’ discontent was clear, with boos and whistles filling the air as Pedro’s penalty ensured Lazio took all three points.
