Samuels suspended from bowling in international cricket

Marlon Samuels has been suspended from bowling in international cricket for 12 months after undergoing assessment on his action.

The West Indies all-rounder’s action came under scrutiny during their first Test defeat to Sri Lanka in October.

Samuels’ action was reported by the match officials and was then assessed at an International Cricket Council (ICC) testing centre in Brisbane.

His action was deemed illegal after the assessment revealed Samuels’ elbow extension was over 15 degrees when bowling.

Samuels was first reported and banned from 2008 until 2011, before being banned again from bowling quick deliveries – but allowed to send down standard off-break – in 2013.

And – because this ban marks his second in two years – Samuels will not be able to form part of the Windies attack until December next year.
