Sensational Osimhen nets brace to give Napoli deserved win over Verona
Super Eagles star nets eighth and ninth goals of the season for Napoli
Victor Osimhen was the man of the moment once again as he scored a brace to lead Napoli to a 2-1 win over Hellas Verona in their Serie A clash on Sunday.
Osimhen was in full flow against Hellas Verona and quickly registered his name on the scoresheet as early as 14 minutes into the match. The Super Eagles striker gained the jump between two defenders at the near post and rose highest to head home an inviting cross from Matteo Politano in the opening exchanges.
Osimhen was once again on the scoresheet in the 71st minute after applying a first-time finish from inside the box following a low cross from right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo. It was the Nigerian striker’s ninth league goal of the season.
Hellas Verona pulled one back quickly, halving the deficit only six minutes after going two behind through captain Davide Faraoni. The wing-back got on the end of a cross from Adrian Tameze in the 77th minute to give his side a glimmer of hope.
Hellas Verona could not breach Napoli’s defence further, and finished the match with only nine men after defender Federico Ceccherini and goalscorer Faraoni were sent off in the game’s dying minutes.
Osimhen has now scored 13 goals for Napoli in all competitions this season despite his injury problems. The Nigerian striker’s goals have put Napoli in second place, only three points behind leaders AC Milan.
