Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz reach US Open Mixed Doubles Quarterfinals
Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz have reached the US Open mixed doubles quarterfinals after winning their opening match together, beating Erin Routliffe and Lloyd Glasspool 5-3, 4-1.
For Serena, returning to the US Open court was a moment she never expected to experience again.
“I never expected to be back on this court. So it was just a really cool moment. I never thought this would happen!”
Alcaraz, meanwhile, admitted that the occasion came with some nerves after spending almost five months away from competitive tennis.
“I was really, really nervous. Playing alongside Serena, it’s still competition, full crowd.”
But he said Serena made the experience easier and encouraged him to simply enjoy the moment.
“She made it really easy for me. Just trying to enjoy and go for it every time.”
Serena had the same approach.
“This is such a bonus for us to be out here. To play with Carlos is honestly so cool. We’re just out here having fun.”
Now the pair have another match ahead of them. Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli are waiting in the quarterfinals.
For now, Serena and Alcaraz have done exactly what they came to do: play, enjoy the moment and win.
