Setback for Nigeria’s next World Cup qualification opponent as players go on strike over unpaid allowances

Nigeria’s next World Cup qualification opponent Zimbabwe have suffered setback after players went on strike over unpaid allowances and appearances fees.

This is according to Zimbabwean news platform HERALD.

The Warriors head coach, Baltemar Brito waited in the team bus for the players to join for Thursday’s training session ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup matchday two clsah vs Nigeria.

The coach was left alone for 45 minutes waiting for the players, who stayed in their rooms, and later backed-off when he realised the players were on strike to get their entitlements.

Recall that Zimbabwe began their qualification campaign with a 0-0 draw vs Rwanda and are scheduled to face Nigeria on November 19.

For their matchday one game vs Rwanda, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZiFA) reportedly promised US$2 000 with no comments for a draw which the players are holding out for.

The Zimbabwe national team players also want their daily allowances paid with moves already in motion to setlle the rift ahead of the match vs Nigeria who were held at home by Lesotho on matchday one.

Baltemar Brito’s side will host the three-time African champions at the Huye Stadium, Butare on Sunday.
