Sierra Leone Vs Nigeria: Hosts name squad for crucial AFCON Qualifiers
Sierra Leone Head Coach John Kiester has named a provisional 38-man list for the crucial AFCON Qualifiers vs Nigeria later this month.
Keister named 12 overseas-based and 26 home-based players on the list as he prepares for the must-win home game vs Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Top on the list of invited players are England-born former Premier League star and current Wigan defender Steven Caulker, Kamil Conteh, Alhaji Kamara, Idris Kanu, Lamin Conteh, Mohamed Kamara and Daniel Karim.
Panaitolikos’s attacker Jonathan Morsay scored in the reverse fixture in Nigeria but will sit out of the return leg with a cartilage damage to his knee.
Queens Park Rangers’ defender Osman Kakay is another key player who will not be ready for the match as he recovers from a ankle injury.
Coach John Keister will also not have Alex Bangura in his squad as he continues his exile from the national team since November 2022, while Steven Caulker is listed in the provisional list despite nursing injury.
To complete the list of absentees is Alhassan Koroma who is suspended for the match due to accumulated bookings from previous games.
The Sierra Leone Vs Nigeria 2023 AFCON Qualification match will take place on June 18 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium in Liberia.
Nigeria won the first leg 2-1 at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Matchday One of the qualifiers.
Sierra Leone occupy third spot in the group behind Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria who need a single point to confirm their qualification.
