‘ Signing Kylian Mbappe would be an error ‘ – FC Barcelona Sports Chief Deco declares
Barcelona sports chief Deco says that it would have been an error if the team had pursued the signing of Kylian Mbappe. SportsRation reports.
In a conversation with Esport3, Deco underscored that Barcelona’s priority lies in appointing a coach who understands the club’s current circumstances.
This follows recent announcement by current manager Xavi Hernandez to the effect that he will be leaving the Catalan outfit at the end of the season.
Deco said: “We will not pursue major signings, and the new coach must grasp this reality. We require a coach who embodies the essence of Barça and comprehends our present situation.”
“Selling Frenkie de Jong and (Ronald) Araújo to acquire Mbappé would be an error and would weaken the team.”
Deco also confirmed the club’s interest in Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia.
Barcelona initiated discussions for Aleix last month and are expected to revisit the possibility this summer.
“Xavi has publicly expressed his admiration for him.
“The departure of Gavi has been challenging. We aim to mitigate it now with (Andreas) Christensen in midfield. Aleix Garcia is a talented player who could prove to be quite valuable.
“We’ll see.” he concluded.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona’s bitter rivals Real Madrid are heavily tipped as Mbappe’s next club.
Recent reports say an agreement is already in place to see Mbappe join the capital club this summer as a free agent.
