Giovanni Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego, scored a quickfire brace in the first half as Hellas Verona won 2-1 to make it consecutive defeats for Juventus in Serie A and leave the Turin giants a long way off.
The Argentinean striker opened the scoring in the 11th minute as he turned the ball home from close range after a save by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Someone scored a second only two minutes later in spectacular fashion. The striker picked up the ball inside the Juventus half of the pitch before swivelling and setting himself up for a shot. He then curled an absolute beauty into the top corner of Szczesny’s net to double Verona’s advantage.
The 26-year-old Simeone has now scored six goals in his last two matches in the Serie A for Verona after his haul of four goals against Lazio in a 4-1 win for Verona last weekend.
Juventus tried to get back into the game and only got themselves on the scoresheet with only ten minutes of the match left to play. American international midfielder Weston McKennie received an incisive pass from right-back Danilo before firing his effort high into the net from just inside the box to score for a second consecutive match after his midweek goal against Sassuolo.
Verona have now won consecutive matches against Lazio and Juventus to put them in seventh place on the Serie A standings above Juventus.
The result against Verona has now made it consecutive defeats for Juventus after their 2-1 loss to Sassuolo in midweek at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
Juventus manager Maximiliano Allegri must now quickly look to turn things around as his side have lost four times in the Serie A already this season, more than champions Inter Milan did in the entirety of the title-winning campaign last season.
