Spalletti douses Osimhen’s injury concerns

Luciano Spalletti has allayed any concern over Victor Osimhen’s fitness after the Nigerian striker was subbed off in the last minutes of Napoli’s 2-0 win at Sassuolo.

Victor Osimhen entered the history books at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore where he scored one of the goals, Napoli continued their impressive run.

The Nigerian striker scored in seven consecutive Serie A games for The Parthenopeans on Friday, to become the first player ever to achieve such a feat in the club’s history.

Incidentally, it was also his 100th career goal, so it was a triple delight if you include the win.

But towards the end of the game, it looked like the 24-year-old striker picked up a knock, he played on for a few minutes and then asked to be subbed off.

His manager, Luciano Spalletti has, however, told his fans not to worry as the Nigerian striker is in good shape.

“For what was assessed there straight away, it doesn’t look like anything special, just a bit of tiredness because he can’t spare himself.

“When he has this urge to push, he stretches and does these runs where you don’t know where he’ll end up.

“He says he can hardly do it anymore and will go two metres, then those two metres become two hundred because he goes after everyone.”

So, looks like all is well after all, and Victor Osimhen should be playing for Napoli when they tackle Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg next Tuesday.
