Spalletti gives Osimhen tips on how to become extraordinary
Says the Nigerian was starved last season
Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti is confident club’s most important player, Victor Osimhen can become an extraordinary striker.
The Nigerian striker scored a wonder goal to hand Luciano Spalletti his first-ever win against a Jose Mourinho team after 7 attempts.
Spalletti had played in six games against Mourinho but was winless in all with a record of three draws and three defeats until Sunday.
Victor Osimhen scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute after bullying former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling to a pass from Matteo Politano.
The Nigerian was on the pitch the entire duration of the game when Giacomo Raspadori was expected to come in at a point.
Spalletti said his unique qualities on both end of the pitch make him untouchable but he can become an extraordinary player with a few adjustments.
“Osimhen has these sudden changes of pace that only he can do,” Spalletti told DAZN
“When he gets his emotions sorted out, he will become extraordinary.
“At times he tries to do everything himself, attacks the ball and the goal without realizing where his teammates are.
“But he is physical, he is strong and we need him to complete the squad, also in the air.
Spalletti also confirmed the talks on the street that Napoli attackers were selfish and didn’t involve him much last season.
“He is one of the best headers of the ball I have ever seen. We didn’t give him as much service last season, but he was also decisive when defending on set plays and resolving a lot of issues for us there.”
So far this season, Victor Osimhen has scored 4 league goals in 7 games, he has scored in three consecutive games since returning from a five-week injury.
