Spanish FA president Angel Maria Villar ‘arrested on corruption charges’
Spanish FA president Angel Maria Villar and his son have reportedly been arrested on allegations of corruption.
Police have reportedly released a statement confirming that figures have been detained in relation to “irregularities in the management of the Federation”.
According to El Pais, Villar has been accused of using the Federation’s funds to gain backing from regional presidents for his re-election, which took place earlier this year.
The offices of the Federation’s headquarters have also been raided as part of an anti-corruption investigation, reports The AP.
Villar is currently in his eighth term as president of the Spanish FA.
