Spieth, Day win again
Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy maintained their perfect starts to the WGC-Dell Match Play on Thursday.
World number one Spieth dominated Victor Dubuisson to claim a 5 and 4 win at the Austin Country Club.
The American won three of the first five holes and never looked back against Frenchman Dubuisson.
With it, he made it two wins from as many matches – as did Day and McIlroy.
Australian Day also had few problems, beating Thongchai Jaidee 5 and 3.
McIlroy was pushed the most of the trio before edging past Smylie Kaufman 3 and 1.
The American was 1 up through 12 holes, but McIlroy recovered – a birdie at the 14th giving him a lead he would not relinquish.
The trio are well-placed to reach the last 16, with the top seeds mostly in good positions.
Adam Scott rebounded from his opening loss by beating Chris Wood 3 and 2.
The Australian meets Group 6 leader Bill Haas in his final match.
Justin Rose and Matt Kuchar will also meet for a spot in the round of 16.
Rose halved his match against Anirban Lahiri, while Kuchar shared his meeting with Fabian Gomez.
Rickie Fowler remains winless in Group 5 after he halved his match with Scott Piercy, while the biggest win of the day was by Zach Johnson, who made it two from two.
American Johnson thrashed Martin Kaymer 8 and 6 despite losing the first hole to the German.
Also holding 2-0 records are Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen, Andy Sullivan, Bill Haas, Kevin Na, Brooks Koepka, Charl Schwartzel and Rafael Cabrera Bello.
