Sporting Lagos FC promoted to the Nigeria Premier League

Sporting Lagos FC have sealed promotion to the Nigeria National League with a 2-0 win over Abeokuta Stormers FC on matchday two of the 2022/2023 NNL Super 8 playoff.

Coach Paul Offor tutored Sporting Lagos FC came into the game vs Stormers knowing a win will seal promotion to the top-flight on the strength of their matchday 1-0 win over FC ONE Rocket on Monday July 2.

Former Dakkada FC midfielder Rivio Ayemwere fired Sporting Lagos FC in front with a deflected shot in the 55th minute.

Abeokuta Stormers FC missed a chance to level scores from 18-yards and were made to pay as Sporting Lagos FC added a second to seal their place in the Nigeria Premier League for the first time in their history.

Founded two years ago, Sporting Lagos will join an exclusive number of privately owned clubs in the Nigeria Premier League for the 2023/2024 season.

Owned by billionaire Shola Akinlade, the new Premier League boys will face Heartland FC on Wednesday to conclude the first phase before face the Northern Conference teams in tussle for the league title.

For Abeokuta Stormers FC, their hopes of picking the second promotion ticket for the Southern Conference rests on them defeating FC ONE Rocket with at least 2-goals while hoping Heartland FC lose to Sporting Lagos FC on Wednesday.

The three remaining Nigeria Premier League promotion slots will be decided on Matchday three, with Katsina United, Kano Pillars FC, EFCC FC, Heartland FC and Abeokuta Stormers still in contention in their respective conferences.
