” Sporting Lagos will not be relegated ” – Godwin Odibo promises after 2-2 home draw vs 3SC

Sporting Lagos winger, Godwin Odibo has promised the club will not be relegated at the end of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Odibo expressed disappointment following the team’s 2-2 draw against south-west rivals 3SC of Ibadan in a Match Day 18 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.

Chinedu Ufere fired the Lagos Boys ahead with his first goal for the club in the 41st minute.

A crazy next ten minutes of football was graced by three goals, Jonathan Alukwu (Sporting Lagos), Kareem Ademola (3SC) and Gideon Monday (3SC) all scoring to set a 2-2 scoreline.

Despite earning the Man of the Match award in the thrilling encounter, Odibo voiced his frustration at not securing maximum points.

In his post-match statement, Odibo emphasized the importance of winning matches over individual accolades, stating, “What is the use of Man of the Match when you cannot win a match? I do not consider the MOTM performance with this result.”

However, Odibo conveyed confidence in Sporting Lagos’ ability to avoid relegation, reassuring fans of the team’s commitment to staying in the top flight. He confidently declared, “We will never relegate. Take that from me.”

Sporting Lagos is currently positioned 16th on the league table, but will drop into the relegation zone after the Rivers United FC Vs Akwa United FC match on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

The team’s next challenge will be against Bendel Insurance in matchday 19 of the NPFL on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Odibo’s determination and optimism reflect the team’s resolve to secure positive results and maintain their status in the league.
