Sports Minister explains delay in appointing new Super Eagles Coach
Following the departure of Jose Peseiro, the search for a new coach for Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has been met with prolonged suspense.
Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, in a recent interview shed light on the delay, attributing it to the cautious approach of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in light of past setbacks.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Sports, Senator Enoh emphasised the importance of avoiding a repeat of the failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. He noted that the NFF is keenly aware of the urgency to solidify the team’s performance, especially with the looming World Cup qualifiers.
“The campaign for the next World Cup has already commenced, and we cannot afford to stumble at the starting line,” stated Senator Enoh. “The NFF is diligently assessing candidates to ensure we have the right leadership in place to guide the Super Eagles to success.”
Acknowledging the public’s eagerness for swift action, Senator Enoh assured that the announcement of the new coach would be made within the next one to two weeks. He underscored the NFF’s commitment to securing a coach who can lead the team to victory.
Meanwhile, following deliberations in their Technical Committee meetings, the NFF has yet to disclose the outcome regarding the selection of the new Super Eagles Coach. Among the frontrunners are Domenec Torrent and Emmanuel Amunike, both esteemed coaches vying for the prestigious role..
