Stanley Nwabali saves penalty kick as Chippa United down TS Galaxy to reach Nedbank Cup semi-final

Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was in good form, saving a penalty kick as he kept  a clean sheet to help Chippa United defeat TS Galaxy 2-0 and reach the Nedbank Cup semi-final.

In a thrilling Nedbank Cup quarterfinal match against TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Stanley Nwabali stole the spotlight with a stellar performance. Keeping a clean sheet in the game, with the biggest moment coming in the dying moments of the match as he denied TS Galaxy’s Pogiso Sanoka from the penalty spot.

With Chippa United holding onto a 1-0 lead, Nwabali’s heroics preserved their advantage, securing a vital victory for his team. The match ended with Chippa United clinching a comfortable 2-0 win, with Roscoe Heinrich sealing the deal with a stoppage-time penalty.

Taking to social media after the game, Stanley Nwabali shared a snippet of his remarkable penalty save on Twitter, expressing pride in his performance and praising his teammates for their collective effort.

His caption, “This is my office!! Another clean sheet in the bag, back-to-back Nedbank Cup match wins prior to great team performance. Onto the next round! Chili boys,” reflected his confidence and determination.

Nwabali’s prowess in penalty situations is well-documented, as evidenced by his standout performances during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In Nigeria’s crucial encounter against South Africa, he played a key role in the team’s success, saving penalty shots from Mokoena and Makgopa during the penalty shootout, which ultimately led to Nigeria’s victory over the Bafana Bafana.
