Stanley Nwabali tipped for Chippa United stay
Chippa United assistant coach, Thabo September, has hinted that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali might continue his career in South Africa despite receiving interest from clubs abroad.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper gained widespread recognition following an outstanding performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where he played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the final, keeping four clean sheets in seven matches.
Nwabali’s exceptional display in the tournament did not go unnoticed, attracting offers from various clubs across Africa and beyond.
However, the former Enyimba goalkeeper has expressed his desire to carefully consider his options before making a decision on his future.
With the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) set to kick off after the international break next month, there is growing speculation about whether Nwabali will remain with Chippa United or move to a new club. Speaking on the matter, Coach Thabo September revealed that while everyone at the club supports Nwabali’s aspirations to advance to a higher level, his immediate future may still lie with the Chilli Boys.
“We all want Stanley to go to the next level, to move on to bigger things. That’s why he plays so well, so he can secure a bigger move,” September said in an interview with FARPost. “From the management, the chairman, and us as coaches and players, we want that to happen. But at the moment, he’s here with us, and he’s a professional. He’s working hard, and if the opportunity doesn’t come, he’s ready to play in the PSL for Chippa United.”
September emphasized that while there may be interest in Nwabali, there is no concrete offer on the table as of now. “I’m not going to speculate on what might be happening behind the scenes. What I know is that Stanley deserves the best because of how well he has performed.”
Nwabali’s performances have revitalized confidence in the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping department, providing stability in a position that had been a source of concern for Nigerian football fans.
