‘Stanley Nwabali will leave this summer’ – Chippa United coach confirms

Chippa United’s goalkeeper coach, Sean Louw, has confirmed that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will not return to the club for the next season.

Nwabali’s future with the South African side has been in doubt since his standout performance for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier this year.

Nwabali played a key role in Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON final, where they lost to the hosts Ivory Coast. Additionally, he was instrumental in Chippa United’s run to the Nedbank Cup semi-final, keeping a total of 12 clean sheets in all competitions.

Louw revealed that the 27-year-old goalkeeper has garnered significant interest from other clubs. “On physical hard copy paper, I don’t know how many offers he has received, but verbally, he has around 10 or even 12 offers. He is definitely not coming back to Chippa next season,” Louw told FarPost.

Reflecting on Nwabali’s development, Louw added, “When [Nwabali] arrived at Chippa, he wasn’t very proficient with his footwork, unable to play from the back. However, he has improved his footwork significantly.”

Nwabali’s departure marks a significant change for Chippa United, as they will now need to find a replacement for the key player who has greatly contributed to their recent successes.
