Stanley Nwabili attracts interest from Victor Boniface’ former club

Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili has reportedly attracted interest from the former club of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface. SportsRation reports.

Nwabili who currently plays for Chippa United in South Africa’s DStv Premiership, has impressed the club with his form, particularly during Nigeria’s campaign in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Since the opening game of the tournament, Nwabili has been Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, securing two clean sheets and making crucial saves to bolster the team’s defensive efforts.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Union Saint-Gilloise reportedly assigning scouts to monitor his displays as Nigeria moves into the knockout round.

The Belgian club is said to be impressed with Nwabili’s goalkeeping abilities, prompting considerations for a potential move.

Union Saint-Gilloise’s current first-choice goalkeeper, Maxime Wensenns, has been linked with a move to Turkey, potentially opening up an opportunity for the Nigerian international.

While Nwabali’s sale could benefit Chippa United financially, the South African club is facing a challenge as they are currently under a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.

This ban will however limit their ability to sign a replacement for the Nigerian goalkeeper.

Union Saint-Gilloise recently enjoyed benefit of investing in Nigerian talents, after Victor Boniface made a big-move from the club to German outfit Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

The currently injured Boniface flourished in the Belgian club’s colours, winning the 2022/2023 UEFA Europa League top-scorer award.

Despite the interest from Union Saint-Gilloise, Nwabali remains focused on performing well for the Nigerian national team in the ongoing AFCON tournament.

His towering presence at 1.97 meters has contributed to his effectiveness in goal, making him a key figure in Nigeria’s quest for a fourth AFCON trophy in Ivory Coast.

Amidst praises and now transfer interest, Nwabili has constantly reiterated a desire to improve and play better for the Super Eagles at the AFCON.
