Stanley Nwabili: Super Eagles must win vs Cote d’Ivoire
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabili has stressed the importance of a must-win approach for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations clash against Cote d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles are facing concerns about their recent performances, having won just one of their last four games.
Nwabali, who made his full international debut in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, expressed disappointment about conceding in his first appearance.
He told SOCCERNET after the match “[The game against Equatorial Guinea] is not really good for me today. I know what I can do. To be honest, I know what I can do. But despite [that, the] 1-1 draw [is] not really good for me.”
Despite acknowledging the challenging nature of the upcoming match against Cote d’Ivoire, Nwabali emphasized that winning is a must.
We must win, definitely we must win. I know the next game will be tough, but we must win,” he added.
Three-time AFCON champions, Nigeria arrived at the 34th edition with a “Let’s do it again” theme, as they push for a fourth continental crown.
The 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea did not help Nigeria’s chances of reaching the knockout round but Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is confident Nigeria can “Definitely” do it again.
The last time both countries faced off in this competition, Nigeria emerged victorious 2-1 on their way to lifting the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title.
