Steph Curry Needs Rest to Recover Energy, Says Coach Kerr
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has made it clear that Stephen Curry needs rest to recover from fatigue after a difficult game against the Denver Nuggets. Despite scoring 20 points, Curry struggled, missing 10 of his 14 three-point shots and giving away seven turnovers in the Warriors’ 114-105 defeat. The loss ended their seven-game winning run, even though the Nuggets were missing key players Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Christian Braun.
Curry had been listed as questionable before the game because of a lower back problem, but he still played 35 minutes. Kerr believes the team must now focus on giving their star player time to recover. “He’s tired… Steph’s been carrying us for a month. He’s been amazing. He’s tired, so we have got to get him some rest,” Kerr said.
Kerr admitted Curry didn’t look like his usual energetic self and stressed that the team is considering giving him a break soon. “You can see it; he doesn’t have his energy right now,” Kerr explained. “We’ve got to absolutely consider giving him a night and getting him rejuvenated.”
Curry, who turned 37 last week, accepted responsibility for his performance but didn’t offer excuses. “I feel fine,” Curry said. He admitted he hadn’t played well and pointed out that his recent back discomfort might have affected his performance. “Obviously, I didn’t play great at all,” he said. “I had too many turnovers, made bad decisions… but I’m confident I can get back to my usual self.”
Kerr’s concern is keeping Curry fresh for the important games ahead, including their next match against the Milwaukee Bucks. The coach said managing Curry’s workload will be key if the Warriors want to keep winning.
Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, who scored 23 points in the same game, also pointed out that Curry’s teammates need to help him more. “It’s OK to be tired,” Butler said. “That’s on myself and on us as a unit to pick up the slack for him. He’s not superhuman.”
As the season continues, the Warriors are planning carefully to make sure Curry gets the rest he needs to stay sharp for the challenges ahead.
