Stephan Pioli hails MVP Samuel Chukwueze after Leece win
AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has shed light on the resurgence of Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze, attributing his recent impressive performances to a change in mindset.
Despite a challenging start to his tenure at the San Siro, the 24-year-old is now showcasing the talent that prompted AC Milan to pursue his signature vigorously last summer.
Chukwueze notched his first Serie A goal against Hellas Verona, followed by another stellar outing versus Fiorentina last week, and capped it off with an assist in AC Milan’s 3-0 victory over Lecce at the San Siro.
In Saturday’s match, just six minutes into the game, the Nigerian international skillfully evaded two defenders before providing an assist to Christian Pulisic, who expertly curled the ball into the net to break the deadlock.
The Nigerian forward was named Most Valuable Player for the match, his first in Milan colours.
Pioli expressed satisfaction with Chukwueze’s performance and elaborated on the factors behind his recent run of good form.
In remarks shared by pianetamilan, the Italian coach remarked, “His mindset has shifted. Now he exudes confidence, positivity, and belief in his abilities.
“Having matured under various conditions, he now has a better understanding of the team’s dynamics. He knows his responsibilities both with and without the ball.
“I am delighted for him; he navigated through a challenging period. From an outsider’s perspective, everything may seem rosy for youngsters who earn significant salaries. Yet, he persevered, worked diligently, and emerged from a tough spell. We are thrilled for him; it brings joy to me, the club, and the team.”
Chukwueze’s assist in today’s match marks his first in Serie A since November last year and his second of the current campaign, adding to his tally of one goal and two assists in the league.
As AC Milan aims to finish the season on a high note, they will rely on the Nigerian forward’s continued excellent performances. With the Serie A and Italian Cup aspirations out of reach, the seven-time European champions have set their sights on the UEFA Europa League, where they are set to face Roma in the quarter-finals.
