Steven Gerrard’s Rangers end Celtic’s 9 year dominance as they claim SPL title

Rangers wrap up title with 6 games to spare

Steven Gerrard’s side, Rangers were confirmed as the Scottish Premier League title on Sunday after city rivals, Celtic were held to a goalless draw by Dundee United in their fixture at Tannadice Park.

Steven Gerrard has successfully dethroned Celtic in his third season in charge of Rangers, as his side are currently 20 points clear of Celtic with only 6 matches left to play. Rangers, who boast of Super Eagles stars, Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun are undefeated so far this season in the league, dropping only 8 points in 32 games in the league.

The Englishman has now won Rangers’ 55th league title and the first of his managerial career in a stellar season that has seen them lose just once in all competitions. Rangers confirmed their participation in the UEFA Champions League playoffs next season since last month. After maintaining a stranglehold on the league title in every single season since 2011/2012, Celtic has finally relinquished their crown to their Old Firm rivals, Rangers.

Both teams face off next in the Old Firm derby on the 21st of March and this time, Rangers will be receiving a guard of honour for the first time in 10 years.
